Hawk AC Ace 2.6

My Hawk Ace project is now finished apart from the usual tinkering which is all part of the fun when you drive a car you have built yourself.

Hawk 2.6 ACE build diary

My Winter project for 2012 / 2013 (And probably a good part of the summer 2013) will be the construction of a Hawk 2.6, replica of the famous AC ACE.

In the early 1960s the late Caroll Shelby took an AC ACE Bristol and installed a big American V8 and started the AC Cobra story.

ST7565 Arduino Megajolt

Combining the ST7565 with an Arduino Nano and the Megajolt ignition in my 1970 Triumph Spitfire has produced a neat display for ignition tuning.

Code and connection information is all here:-

Arduino Megajolt LCD Display

This is my Mk2 version Megajolt in car display using the ST7565 LCD flat panel display. The LCD incorporates RGB LEDs for backlighting and by combining these we can generate almost any background colour. We will use this feature to act as a "shift light" or "Rev limit" indicator if you have these options set within the Megajolt.
Code and connection information is all here:-

Arduino based Megajolt In-Car Display

The plan here is to build a stand-alone unit that interrogates the megajolt ECU and displays the ignition advance setting, in degrees, and the inlet manifold pressure (Vacuum), in KPa.
These parameters may be monitored when using the megajolt-configuration-software but, using a laptop in the car while driving may not be entirely safe or convenient so this dedicated display was developed.
Apart from an interesting display there are some practical aspects to this project.
If you accelerate and the engine knocks (pinks), a glance at the ignition advance display will show the setting that must be adjusted.
Apart from that....I enjoy messing with this kind of stuff.
Based on the excellent Arduino board.

There are two web sites with all the build information and Arduino code:-

Kathrein 4 Metre 70MHz Linear Power Amplifier

I am surprised there are not more of these amplifiers around. They were used by the UK Fire Service for many years providing a solid and dependable 100 watts of RF output at locations all over the UK. Robust professional construction by the Kathrein company, these units originally cost around £5000 each and are designed to run continuously, 365 days of the year at 100 watts out. The fire service operated in the VHF Low-Band region between 70.5 - 72MHz.

The objective is to modify this amplifier for 70MHz SSB operation providing full legal limit power with total reliability.

Motorola Oncore GPS with 1pps output

There are several variants of the Oncore but they all amount to much the same thing.
A feature of the Oncore is the 1PPS output with 500nS accuracy which may be used for locking oscillators.
